I want a BIG car to drive around Texas. The Escalade is definitely not on my list. Please share your thoughts on the Cadillac DTS.

Michael

Houston, TX

Hello there, Michael! I am pretty sure that you are one of those guys whose stars are rising on the horizon. I do think that you’d want to shine bright with something that says, “I’ve arrived, but I’m still coming and going” on a daily basis. Not as flashy as a sports car but commands respect like Mafia don, that’s your 2009 Cadillac DTS. It would be great to see you behind the wheel of a DTS in Texas.

Several people do cite the DTS as the heir to the DeVille, which was a Cadillac’s answer for the need of Americans to have a big, luxurious car. I have to agree with the advertisement of Cadillac that with all your hard work, why get inside a cramped auto? So, what will you enjoy with the DTS, Michael? As a standard, the three trims of the DTS come with a Northstar V8 engine. The V8 and Platinum trims have their 4.6 L V8s pumping out 275 horsepower while the Performance trim gives a higher value at 292 horsepower. All have the Hydra-matic automatic transmission so you know that driving it won’t be a complicated experience. There is also Stabilitrak, an electronic system that helps you handle the car, to keep you on the road whenever you drive in your DTS through difficult curves. And if you don’t feel like driving all the way, there’s also an option for cruise control. But with this fantastic machine, I suggest that you keep the driving to yourself. If you’d wish, you can also check out the different options available at your local Cadillac dealer.

Reader’s Question:

My dad will turn over his Cadillac Eldorado to me by the end of this month here in Houston, Texas. I am pretty worried about its engine performance since he had used this car for more than 3 years. What are the main engine features of this coupe?

Jerle

Houston, TX

Cadillac has been renowned for producing high end and top quality cars. One of their major launches when it comes to Coupe cars is the Eldorado. It was launched way back 2002 and comes in 2 models, the ESC and the ETC.

Both coupes share the Cadillac’s 4.6-liter, twin-cam Northstar V8 engine. As I can remember, it was an upgrade from the 2000 model which features lower emissions, silent operation and it is capable of running on regular fuel. Its ETC is tuned to give more power and aggression. Each model is equipped with four speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting. The engine produces 275 hp at a whopping 5600 rpm and 300lbs ft of torque at 4000. Since the Etc is created as a performing coupe with a much more aggressive character, it produces 300 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 295 pounds-feet at 4400 rpm.

The Eldorado is also fully packed with all the luxuries that Cadillac offers. Having it for 3 years might make a difference, but if your dad has not done any upgrades or updates yet, the Eldorado will work perfectly fine and one great car to own. Should you decide to change the car insurance covering it from the original one that your dad might have, try to browse through this website for more affordable premiums.
